Pay Range: $80k - $100k annually

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Technical Director for the Vintage Santa Monica location will lead all aspects of AVL production support for the Vintage Sunday services and mid-week events at the Santa Monica location. Additionally, they will advise, consult and assist in the acquisition and set up of production technology necessary for the South Bay location and any additional locations that may be launched. (Each location has a live in-person teacher and worship leader.)

This role is a Sunday through Thursday position, and will include evenings during the week.

Key Responsibilities

LEAD the production team at Vintage Church and manage production for Sunday services (currently 3), mid-week Vintage ministry events, mid-week rehearsals, third-party events and conferences, to achieve an industry-standard level user experience.

BUILD volunteer core teams by cultivating community and developing relationships.

COLLABORATE with the Pastors, Worship, Production and other ministry teams. Lead pre-event and post-event briefings.

DEVELOP current standards of operation, improve systems and execution of production, and pioneer new ways for the production team to create meaningful and intentional experiences for every event.

SERVICE & EVENT PRODUCTION

  • Ensure that stages, spaces and equipment are well maintained and presentable

  • Oversee all production staff, contractors, and volunteer teams for all events that require AVL

  • Lead Production teams for Sunday services and mid-week events, ensuring high-level production value

  • Manage the Production budget and payment of all production-related invoices, including subscriptions, consultants, contractors, and equipment

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with AVL vendors and consultants for new and existing tech equipment and systems

  • Function as primary advisor on the design, acquisition and installation of new tech equipment

  • Oversee and maintain the AVL systems used by VKids and VYouth

OTHER

As a staff member of Vintage Church, the overarching purpose of your role is to serve the mission of the church. As such, you may be assigned tasks and responsibilities from time to time which are outside of the scope of this job description.

Requirements & Experience

  • Extremely detail-oriented

  • 5+ years experience in a large church technical production role, or live event equivalent, where you directly managed employees

  • Highly developed organizational, relational and leadership skills

  • A team player mentality with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude

  • Experience in teaching and training others to develop technical skills

  • Ability to stay current with new technology and best practices in live event production

  • Professional decorum, ability to communicate well, both verbally and in written form

Technical Knowledge Required:

  • Expertise in mixing FOH, Monitors, and Broadcast Audio

  • Knowledge of Allen & Heath Avantis and D-Live Systems, and large-format digital audio consoles

  • Knowledge of RF Management

  • Knowledge of Q-Sys Designer and Q-Sys Systems

  • Broadcast Online Live Streaming Experience

  • Proficient in ProPresenter 18, Google Slides, and PowerPoint

  • Experience building, configuring, and striking LED Walls

  • Experience with stage lighting, DMX, and Vista3

  • Expertise in Multi Camera Live Stream setups and video venues

  • Expertise with Blackmagic Video Systems; proficiency in video system management

  • Knowledge of acoustics and sound system design

  • Expertise with Pro Tools and MADI protocols

  • Expertise with Resi encoders and live-streaming services

  • Expertise with NDI encoding and decoding

  • Ability to lift/carry, up to approximately 30 pounds frequently, and occasional lifting/carrying of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required

  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)

  • Visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  • Auditory capability to hear very well, meaning the ability to discern differences and qualities of audio frequencies, and the ability to comprehend the complete dynamic range of spoken and musical sound.

Additional Requirements:

The work schedule will include weekend and evening hours. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all staff are required to work certain church functions such as Alpha Launch Nights, the FOCUS Retreat, Christmas Eve, and the Easter weekend including Good Friday, Easter Sunday and the Saturday in between. These special events may include additional hours for setup and teardown. Additional details are outlined in the Staff Handbook.
